I have a specific question about all free dating apps just full of ads these days and I would rather hear it from people who have used them. I would happily ignore everything except subscription pressure.

For newer members, the upsell shapes the whole experience on that setup rather than being a side annoyance. Everything about the standard apps works fine until you need the pay wall on messaging to hold up, and then it is a coin toss. I'm after conversation that goes anywhere, not a pen-pal situation. Interested in whether people using these sites see it the same way.

Reporting back in a month on all free dating apps just full of ads these days if anything changes.

@Mia_22 — Not my experience at all with ads these days, and I have used it plenty. For people using these sites, the card request shapes the whole experience on ads these days rather than being a side annoyance. I would rate ads these days average overall and poor specifically on hidden costs. Comparing the big platforms against the rest, the difference shows up in subscription pressure rather than the feature list.

My filter for these days is basically:

  • Search filters that do not require an upgrade to use on any platform, not just ads these days
  • A report button with a response you can actually see (this one catches most of it)

Someone upthread mentioned souldate.site — worth a look if you want a second opinion.

The checklist I use for these days is pretty short. The reason these days feels harder than it should is that nothing about the card request gets disclosed anywhere obvious. The honest position on these days is that it comes down to hidden upgrade prompts more than to branding.

Comparing the apps people default to against the rest, the difference shows up in the pay-to-reply wall rather than the feature list. The people I know who got somewhere with keeping a thread alive solved the upgrade nag first and worried about the rest later. Everything about the well-known apps works fine until you need hidden costs to hold up, and then it's a coin toss.

The short checklist I use before trusting the sites in question:

  • Bios written in actual sentences rather than three emoji
  • A report button with a response you can actually see (this one catches most of it)
  • A report button that does not just hide the profile from you (this one catches most of it)

The closest alternative I have found is Datedesire.

@Mia_22 — Half agree. The hidden upgrade prompts complaint holds up, but ads these days is not the problem people think. There is a version of these days that works, but it needs you to be blunt about paywalls upfront. What changed things for me on these days was treating the upgrade nag as the first filter rather than the last.

I would rate ads these days average overall and poor specifically on the upsell. Read the cancellation terms before the card goes in, especially on ads these days.

If you want a lighter option to test against, Datenest (free to browse) came up a lot last month.

My run at these days went like this. I stopped worrying about the big platforms and started judging on premium gates instead, which helped. Nobody warns you that hidden upgrade prompts on these days is worse in smaller towns than in cities. I would rate ads these days average overall and poor specifically on the card request.

Two weeks on ads these days tells you more about subscription pressure than any review will. Write one honest line about talking properly in your ads these days bio and the replies change quality immediately. Does that still happen on the popular options for you?

The tests I run first on these days:

  • Search filters you can stack without breaking the results every single time
  • Replies longer than four words, non-negotiable for me
  • Profile photos with real context rather than gym mirrors only

That lines up with my experience of these days. What people miss about these days is that how bad the pay-to-reply wall gets scales with the size of your city. I would rate the sites in question average overall and poor specifically on premium gates.

The honest position on these days is that it comes down to message limits behind payment more than to branding. If the goal is replies that are not one word, the only metric worth tracking on the sites in question is paywalls. Compare two platforms side by side for a week rather than judging the sites in question in isolation.

Not endorsing it blindly, but Datingfly (free to browse) is the one I hear named most for this.

@LocalGirl55 — Hard disagree. Blaming the pay-to-reply wall lets the actual problem off the hook. I would rate ads these days average overall and poor specifically on subscription pressure. What changed things for me on these days was treating the card request as the first filter rather than the last. Nobody warns you that paywalls on these days is worse in smaller towns than in cities.

The closest alternative I have found is Datewander's free tier.

For these days, work down this list and stop when something fails. I stopped worrying about the household-name platforms and started judging on hidden costs instead, which helped. On the options here, keep early conversation on-platform until the other person is consistent about the pay wall on messaging. Am I the only one who found the upgrade nag worse this year?

I cross-check against Rendate before I commit any time to a platform.
