Been going back and forth on gay dating apps for 14 and up? (Safety discussion) for a few weeks and I'm no closer to a conclusion. The thing I've not been able to judge is how reports get handled.

Comparing the popular options against the rest, the difference shows up in whether accounts are checked rather than the feature list. I'd rate that setup average overall and poor specifically on verification. I'd settle for messages that land at this point. Curious whether the LGBTQ crowd here have found the same.

The tests I run first on (Safety discussion):

  • Replies longer than four words before anything else
  • An inbox preview that is not blurred out as an upsell
  • An unsubscribe link that does not route through a survey, non-negotiable for me
  • A cancellation route you can complete without emailing support if you care about identity checks
  • The card request held back until you have seen the inbox (this one catches most of it)

Would still like to hear from anyone who cracked gay dating apps for 14 and up? (Safety discussion) properly.

I've been on up? (Safety discussion) on and off since last year, so for what it's worth:

  • Search filters that actually narrow the result count if you care about profile checks
  • Search filters that do not require an upgrade to use, non-negotiable for me
  • An unsubscribe link confirmed by an email you can keep if you care about profile checks
  • Distance filters you can pin to a neighbourhood on any platform, not just up? (Safety discussion)
  • Profile photos that look like the same person across all of them, non-negotiable for me

Every complaint I have read about (Safety discussion) traces back to moderation quality in the end. What people miss about (Safety discussion) is that how bad trust signals gets scales with the size of your city. For LGBTQ users, how well it's policed shapes the whole experience on up?

(Safety discussion) rather than being a side annoyance. Use block and report early on up? (Safety discussion) — they work better than people assume. What am I missing on (Safety discussion)?

I cross-check against Ezhookups's free tier before I commit any time to a platform.

I am going to push back here — the sites in question works fine if you set it up properly. The people I know who got somewhere with talking properly solved identity checks first and worried about the rest later. Do not hand over your number until you have had a live conversation about (Safety discussion). What am I missing on (Safety discussion)?

For comparison I have also been using the Datelink site, which handles this differently.

Skip the theory — for (Safety discussion) this is what matters. For members on the LGBTQ boards, how reports get handled shapes the whole experience on up? (Safety discussion) rather than being a side annoyance.

In practice the apps people default to can handle whether accounts are checked better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. There is a version of (Safety discussion) that works, but it needs you to be blunt about whether anyone actually reviews reports upfront.

@Caleb Bailey — It is more mixed than that — these platforms depends on how you use it. Every complaint I've read about (Safety discussion) traces back to the vetting process in the end. The honest position on (Safety discussion) is that it comes down to the reporting system more than to branding.

Anyone chasing conversation that goes anywhere runs into identity checks eventually, whatever platform they start on. Nobody warns you that whether accounts are checked on (Safety discussion) is worse in smaller towns than in cities. Fill the profile out properly before judging (Safety discussion); half-finished profiles make identity checks much worse.

My run at (Safety discussion) went like this. Two weeks on up? (Safety discussion) tells you more about moderation quality than any review will. LGBTQ singles locally will tell you the same: it comes down to whether accounts are checked in the end.

There is a version of (Safety discussion) that works, but it needs you to be blunt about the reporting system upfront. Has anyone actually tested up? (Safety discussion) in a smaller city?

Seconding this. How well it is policed settled it for me too. What actually predicts whether up? (Safety discussion) works is how trust signals is handled on day one. You can usually tell within a week whether up? (Safety discussion) is going to work for messaging that works.

I stopped worrying about the standard apps and started judging on identity checks instead, which helped. What people miss about (Safety discussion) is that how bad the reporting system gets scales with the size of your city. Anyone chasing talking properly runs into the vetting process eventually, whatever platform they start on. Compare two platforms side by side for a week rather than judging up? (Safety discussion) in isolation.

What I check on (Safety discussion), in order:

  • Verification badges applied consistently across the site every single time
  • A report button that leads somewhere real if you care about how well it is policed
  • An inbox preview that is not blurred out as an upsell (this one catches most of it)
  • Verification badges that mean something beyond an uploaded selfie on any platform, not just up? (Safety discussion)

I cross-check against datedesire.online before I commit any time to a platform.

@Chloe — Respectfully, no — these platforms has been the opposite for me. The gap between how typical dating sites gets marketed and how how reports get handled actually gets handled is where the frustration starts. The honest position on (Safety discussion) is that it comes down to the vetting process more than to branding.

Ask one specific question early on these platforms; that alone filters most of how well it is policed. What am I missing on (Safety discussion)?
