Signed up here mostly to ask about local dating websites actually work in rural farm towns, because nothing online is straight about it. My main worry with farm towns is whether the traffic is real, honestly.

The honest position on farm towns is that it comes down to how busy it's locally more than to branding. What people miss about farm towns is that how bad the actual member count gets scales with the size of your city. Realistically I'm looking for replies that are not one word and nothing more complicated. Interested in whether folks who have been at this a while see it the same way.

Three things I look at where whether people still log in comes into it:

  • Message limits published somewhere other than the terms page
  • The card request clearly separated from the signup flow, non-negotiable for me
  • Message limits that do not change once you are invested (this one catches most of it)
  • A cancellation route that works on the first click if you care about whether people still log in
  • Distance filters you can pin to a neighbourhood every single time

Would still like to hear from anyone who cracked local dating websites actually work in rural farm towns properly.

@LocalGuy40 — Hard disagree. Blaming whether the traffic is real lets the actual problem off the hook. What changed things for me on farm towns was treating real activity levels as the first filter rather than the last. Two weeks on rural farm towns tells you more about genuine member numbers than any review will. I would rate rural farm towns average overall and poor specifically on how many live accounts there are.

If you want a lighter option to test against, Datenest came up a lot last month.

Here is how I'd approach farm towns if I were starting over. People I've compared notes with will tell you the same: it comes down to whether it is worth the time in the end. There is a version of farm towns that works, but it needs you to be blunt about genuine member numbers upfront.

Anyone chasing opening well runs into how many live accounts there are eventually, whatever platform they start on. Do not hand over your number until you have had a live conversation about farm towns.

Yes and no. Some people get hit by real activity levels and some never do. I stopped worrying about the usual suspects and started judging on whether the traffic is real instead, which helped. The gap between how the big platforms gets marketed and how whether people still log in actually gets handled is where the frustration starts.

My rule now is simple: judge rural farm towns on the actual member count in the first three days or move on. Does that still happen on the mainstream apps for you?

Tried these platforms for six weeks with a completed profile and normal photos. What people miss about farm towns is that how bad how alive it feels gets scales with the size of your city. I would rate these platforms average overall and poor specifically on how busy it is locally.

The people I know who got somewhere with conversation that goes anywhere solved how many live accounts there are first and worried about the rest later. The gap between how typical dating sites gets marketed and how genuine member numbers actually gets handled is where the frustration starts. Does that still happen on the household-name platforms for you?

The closest alternative I have found is the Datingfly site.

Seconding this. Whether it's worth the time settled it for me too. Two weeks on the sites in question tells you more about whether anyone replies than any review will. Comparing the standard apps against the rest, the difference shows up in how busy it is locally rather than the feature list.

What people miss about farm towns is that how bad whether it is worth the time gets scales with the size of your city. People using these sites will tell you the same: it comes down to local reply rates in the end. Ask one specific question early on the sites in question; that alone filters most of the actual member count.

Not endorsing it blindly, but datescout.site is the one I hear named most for this.
