Genuine question about 'm sick of subscriptions; what are the top free dating apps - specifically for Android — I am not after a sales pitch, just what actually happens. Where I keep getting stuck is message limits behind payment.

Nobody warns you that hidden costs on specifically for Android is worse in smaller towns than in cities. What actually predicts whether the whole thing works is how the card request is handled on day one. If it gets me to messages that land inside a month, I will call it a win.

Three things I look at where the upgrade nag comes into it:

  • Message limits that do not change once you are invested (this one catches most of it)
  • A moderation policy dated within the last year if you care about the upgrade nag
  • Profile photos with real context rather than gym mirrors only on any platform, not just the whole thing

Curious whether anyone has a different angle on 'm sick of subscriptions; what are the top free dating apps - specifically for Android.

My run at specifically for Android went like this. Nobody warns you that the card request on specifically for Android is worse in smaller towns than in cities. People who date casually will tell you the same: it comes down to premium gates in the end. Read the cancellation terms before the card goes in, especially on these platforms.

For comparison I have also been using the Souldate site, which handles this differently.

@Kaitlyn34 — Not my experience at all with that setup, and I have used it plenty. Comparing the apps everyone names against the rest, the difference shows up in the pay wall on messaging rather than the feature list. For newer members, the upsell shapes the whole experience on that setup rather than being a side annoyance.

In practice the mainstream apps can handle hidden upgrade prompts better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. Nobody warns you that paywalls on specifically for Android is worse in smaller towns than in cities.

Three things I look at where the upsell comes into it:

  • An inbox preview visible before you commit anything, non-negotiable for me
  • Search filters that do not require an upgrade to use, non-negotiable for me
  • Message limits stated before signup rather than after (this one catches most of it)

If you want the short version for specifically for Android, here it's. My rule now is simple: judge the sites in question on the pay-to-reply wall in the first three days or move on. What changed things for me on specifically for Android was treating the upgrade nag as the first filter rather than the last. Has anyone actually tested the sites in question in a smaller city?

@Jordan Graham — It is more mixed than that — the options here depends on how you use it. Two weeks on the options here tells you more about the pay wall on messaging than any review will. The gap between how the apps people default to gets marketed and how paywalls actually gets handled is where the frustration starts.

The reason specifically for Android feels harder than it should is that nothing about hidden upgrade prompts gets disclosed anywhere obvious. Ask one specific question early on the options here; that alone filters most of the pay-to-reply wall.

My run at specifically for Android went like this. There is a version of specifically for Android that works, but it needs you to be blunt about the card request upfront. Anyone got a counter-example on that setup?

Not endorsing it blindly, but datedesire.online is the one I hear named most for this.

That lines up with my experience of specifically for Android. What changed things for me on specifically for Android was treating the upgrade nag as the first filter rather than the last. Compare two platforms side by side for a week rather than judging the sites in question in isolation.

Worth noting Datebound (free to browse) does the same thing without the upgrade nag.

@Olivia Cooper — Respectfully, no — that setup has been the opposite for me. There is a version of specifically for Android that works, but it needs you to be blunt about hidden costs upfront. What changed things for me on specifically for Android was treating premium gates as the first filter rather than the last.

You can usually tell within a week whether that setup is going to work for messaging that works. The honest position on specifically for Android is that it comes down to subscription pressure more than to branding. Screenshot anything resembling a payment trap on that setup and report it.

Quick list of what actually matters for messaging that works:

  • The card request clearly separated from the signup flow on any platform, not just that setup
  • Message limits that do not change once you are invested
  • A cancellation route you can complete without emailing support on any platform, not just that setup

@Sophia Fisher — Half agree. The hidden upgrade prompts complaint holds up, but the whole thing is not the problem people think. What changed things for me on specifically for Android was treating paywalls as the first filter rather than the last. There is a version of specifically for Android that works, but it needs you to be blunt about hidden costs upfront. I would rate the whole thing average overall and poor specifically on premium gates.

The reason specifically for Android feels harder than it should is that nothing about subscription pressure gets disclosed anywhere obvious. Do not hand over your number until you have had a live conversation about specifically for Android. What am I missing on specifically for Android?

I've been on the sites in question on and off since last year, so for what it is worth:

  • Distance filters that do not silently widen overnight (this one catches most of it)
  • An inbox preview showing real timestamps
  • Activity timestamps that are not obviously generated
  • An inbox preview you can check on mobile too
  • Replies that reference something from your profile if you care about the pay-to-reply wall

The honest position on specifically for Android is that it comes down to the pay wall on messaging more than to branding. You can usually tell within a week whether the sites in question is going to work for messages that land. On the sites in question, set filters tight and then loosen them — the opposite order makes the card request look worse than it's.

Seconding this. Premium gates settled it for me too. Anyone chasing getting past the first message runs into premium gates eventually, whatever platform they start on. I stopped worrying about the well-known apps and started judging on the card request instead, which helped.

On this kind of site, set filters tight and then loosen them — the opposite order makes hidden costs look worse than it is. What am I missing on specifically for Android?
