Short version: I want to understand fan club for nale4u worth the monthly subscription before I put any more time into it. Where I keep getting stuck is paywalls.

What people miss about monthly subscription is that how bad hidden upgrade prompts gets scales with the size of your city. In practice most of the big sites can handle the pay wall on messaging better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. What I want out of it's getting past the first message without a long runway.

If someone has found a better route through fan club for nale4u worth the monthly subscription, say so.

@Eli — Not my experience at all with that setup, and I've used it plenty. Anyone chasing talking properly runs into the upsell eventually, whatever platform they start on. There is a version of monthly subscription that works, but it needs you to be blunt about premium gates upfront.

For monthly subscription, work down this list and stop when something fails. My rule now is simple: judge the monthly subscription on the pay wall on messaging in the first three days or move on. Nobody warns you that hidden upgrade prompts on monthly subscription is worse in smaller towns than in cities.

If the goal is actually getting a reply, the only metric worth tracking on the monthly subscription is the upgrade nag. The reason monthly subscription feels harder than it should is that nothing about the upsell gets disclosed anywhere obvious. On the monthly subscription, keep early conversation on-platform until the other person is consistent about hidden upgrade prompts.

@Maya — It is more mixed than that — the whole thing depends on how you use it. What changed things for me on monthly subscription was treating the upsell as the first filter rather than the last.

A few of us compared notes on Datewander recently and it held up better than expected.

Here is what actually happened the fortnight I tried the sites in question. I'd rate the sites in question average overall and poor specifically on the pay-to-reply wall. Everything about the well-known apps works fine until you need premium gates to hold up, and then it's a coin toss. Is message limits behind payment really any better on the paid tier?

Someone upthread mentioned Rendate — worth a look if you want a second opinion.

Seconding this. The card request settled it for me too. My rule now is simple: judge the monthly subscription on the pay wall on messaging in the first three days or move on. The honest position on monthly subscription is that it comes down to the card request more than to branding.

What actually predicts whether the monthly subscription works is how subscription pressure is handled on day one. There is a version of monthly subscription that works, but it needs you to be blunt about premium gates upfront. @Hazel Bell — Hard disagree. Blaming message limits behind payment lets the actual problem off the hook. I would rate the sites in question average overall and poor specifically on the upsell. Anyone chasing actually getting a reply runs into the upgrade nag eventually, whatever platform they start on.

I stopped worrying about the usual suspects and started judging on the pay wall on messaging instead, which helped. There is a version of monthly subscription that works, but it needs you to be blunt about premium gates upfront. On the sites in question, take the free tier as far as it goes before paying anything toward conversations that keep moving.

The closest alternative I have found is flurrydate.online.

Simplest route through monthly subscription I have found:

  • A report button that leads somewhere real before anything else
  • A moderation policy written for humans rather than lawyers
  • An inbox preview that is not blurred out as an upsell, non-negotiable for me
  • A report button backed by a published moderation policy on any platform, not just the monthly subscription

In practice the household-name platforms can handle message limits behind payment better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. Everything about the mainstream apps works fine until you need subscription pressure to hold up, and then it is a coin toss.

Nobody warns you that the card request on monthly subscription is worse in smaller towns than in cities. The reason monthly subscription feels harder than it should is that nothing about the pay-to-reply wall gets disclosed anywhere obvious. On the monthly subscription, set filters tight and then loosen them — the opposite order makes the upsell look worse than it is.

I cross-check against the Datenest site before I commit any time to a platform.

Half agree. The the pay-to-reply wall complaint holds up, but the sites in question is not the problem people think. There is a version of monthly subscription that works, but it needs you to be blunt about subscription pressure upfront. The honest position on monthly subscription is that it comes down to the upgrade nag more than to branding.

You can usually tell within a week whether the sites in question is going to work for replies that aren't one word. My rule now is simple: judge the sites in question on hidden costs in the first three days or move on.
