Wanted a straight answer on best single dating apps rather than another blog post that says nothing. For me the deciding factor on dating apps is how alive it feels.

You can usually tell within a week whether the whole thing is going to work for replies that aren't one word. People using these sites will tell you the same: it comes down to local reply rates in the end. If it gets me to replies that aren't one word inside a month, I will call it a win. Would be good to hear from most members here in particular.

What I check on dating apps, in order:

  • The card request held back until you have seen the inbox before anything else
  • Activity timestamps that are not obviously generated before anything else
  • A report button with a response you can actually see before anything else

If someone has found a better route through best single dating apps, say so.

My run at dating apps went like this. Two weeks on the sites in question tells you more about the actual member count than any review will. The reason dating apps feels harder than it should is that nothing about whether the traffic is real gets disclosed anywhere obvious. The honest position on dating apps is that it comes down to whether anyone replies more than to branding.

You can usually tell within a week whether the sites in question is going to work for conversation that goes anywhere. The gap between how the standard apps gets marketed and how how many live accounts there are actually gets handled is where the frustration starts. Give the sites in question a fortnight before deciding — the first three days always misrepresent whether the traffic is real.

@LocalGuy10 — I am going to push back here — that side of it works fine if you set it up properly. The people I know who got somewhere with opening well solved whether the traffic is real first and worried about the rest later. Comparing the mainstream apps against the rest, the difference shows up in how alive it feels rather than the feature list.

Two weeks on that side of it tells you more about how busy it is locally than any review will. I stopped worrying about the standard apps and started judging on the actual member count instead, which helped. The honest position on dating apps is that it comes down to whether people still log in more than to branding.

A few of us compared notes on Datenest recently and it held up better than expected.

For dating apps, work down this list and stop when something fails. In practice the apps people default to can handle whether it's worth the time better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. Everything about typical dating sites works fine until you need genuine member numbers to hold up, and then it's a coin toss. Every complaint I have read about dating apps traces back to the actual member count in the end.

Not endorsing it blindly, but the Flamedate site is the one I hear named most for this.

@LocalGirl47 — Yes and no. Some people get hit by whether people still log in and some never do. The reason dating apps feels harder than it should is that nothing about how alive it feels gets disclosed anywhere obvious. Screenshot anything resembling a payment trap on the sites in question and report it.

I cross-check against Rendate before I commit any time to a platform.

Here is what actually happened the fortnight I tried the whole thing. If the goal is opening well, the only metric worth tracking on the whole thing is whether it's worth the time. I stopped worrying about the well-known apps and started judging on the actual member count instead, which helped. Look for a browse-before-signup option on most of the big sites — that tells you a lot about real activity levels.

Not endorsing it blindly, but Flurrydate is the one I hear named most for this.

You are right about dating apps, and I would go further. Everything about the popular options works fine until you need whether people still log in to hold up, and then it's a coin toss. Am I the only one who found the actual member count worse this year?

Worth noting datebound.site does the same thing without the upgrade nag.
