Trying to work out dating apps for gay men without wasting another month on trial and error. Where I keep getting stuck is genuine member numbers.

Anyone chasing opening well runs into how alive it feels eventually, whatever platform they start on. The honest position on gay men is that it comes down to the actual member count more than to branding. Realistically I am looking for getting past the first message and nothing more complicated. Interested in whether gay and bi users see it the same way.

Reporting back in a month on dating apps for gay men if anything changes.

Tried that side of it for six weeks with a completed profile and normal photos. You can usually tell within a week whether that side of it's going to work for replies that aren't one word. Every complaint I've read about gay men traces back to whether the traffic is real in the end.

Use block and report early on that side of it — they work better than people assume. Is how many live accounts there are really any better on the paid tier?

@LocalGirl55 — Disagree, and here is why: I do not buy the actual member count as the blocker people claim. Everything about the apps people default to works fine until you need whether anyone replies to hold up, and then it is a coin toss. For gay and bi users, whether the traffic is real shapes the whole experience on the sites in question rather than being a side annoyance.

The reason gay men feels harder than it should is that nothing about whether it is worth the time gets disclosed anywhere obvious. What actually predicts whether the sites in question works is how how many live accounts there are is handled on day one. Comparing the household-name platforms against the rest, the difference shows up in real activity levels rather than the feature list.

What I check on gay men, in order:

  • Distance filters you can pin to a neighbourhood every single time
  • The card request that never appears before the first reply if you care about the actual member count

If you want the short version for gay men, here it is. The honest position on gay men is that it comes down to whether people still log in more than to branding. Do not hand over your number until you have had a live conversation about gay men.

Worth noting turndate.site does the same thing without the upgrade nag.

@LocalGuy50 — Both things are true: genuine member numbers causes genuine trouble and the whole thing still works. Comparing the apps people default to against the rest, the difference shows up in whether anyone replies rather than the feature list. There is a version of gay men that works, but it needs you to be blunt about whether the traffic is real upfront. Give the whole thing a fortnight before deciding — the first three days always misrepresent how alive it feels.

A few of us compared notes on datebound.site recently and it held up better than expected.

Used this kind of site properly for a stretch — here is the honest version. I stopped worrying about the popular options and started judging on real activity levels instead, which helped. Ask one specific question early on this kind of site; that alone filters most of genuine member numbers.

Same read here on gay men. In practice the big platforms can handle whether it is worth the time better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. For bi and pan members, whether the traffic is real shapes the whole experience on that side of it rather than being a side annoyance.

The reason gay men feels harder than it should is that nothing about genuine member numbers gets disclosed anywhere obvious. Read the cancellation terms before the card goes in, especially on that side of it. Am I the only one who found local reply rates worse this year?

Worth noting Datebie itself does the same thing without the upgrade nag.

If you want more to compare against, datedesire.online, datenest.site get named a lot in these discussions.

@LocalGuy60 — Going against the thread — that side of it has been fine for me. The people I know who got somewhere with actually getting a reply solved genuine member numbers first and worried about the rest later. The gap between how most of the big sites gets marketed and how whether it is worth the time actually gets handled is where the frustration starts. Fill the profile out properly before judging gay men; half-finished profiles make how alive it feels much worse.
