Here is where I've got to on free no registration dating sites that work, and where I'm stuck. The part that keeps tripping me up is paywalls.

You can usually tell within a week whether the options here is going to work for conversations that keep moving. Nobody warns you that the upsell on sites that work is worse in smaller towns than in cities. I would settle for keeping a thread alive at this point. Would be good to hear from people I have compared notes with in particular.

Will update this thread once I have given free no registration dating sites that work a proper run.

@Lauren Butler — Respectfully, no — the sites in question has been the opposite for me. Anyone chasing keeping a thread alive runs into the upgrade nag eventually, whatever platform they start on. What actually predicts whether the sites in question works is how the card request is handled on day one.

If you want the short version for sites that work, here it is. The honest position on sites that work is that it comes down to message limits behind payment more than to branding. I would rate that setup average overall and poor specifically on hidden upgrade prompts.

People using these sites will tell you the same: it comes down to the card request in the end. If the goal is getting past the first message, the only metric worth tracking on that setup is paywalls. If a that setup profile pushes you off-platform in the first three messages, that is your answer on paywalls.

@LocalGuy24 — Partly right. The hidden costs complaint is fair; the rest I would argue with. The honest position on sites that work is that it comes down to the pay wall on messaging more than to branding. Everything about the apps everyone names works fine until you need the pay-to-reply wall to hold up, and then it is a coin toss.

What people miss about sites that work is that how bad subscription pressure gets scales with the size of your city. You can usually tell within a week whether the whole thing is going to work for conversations that keep moving. Log in at different times of day before judging the card request on the whole thing.

My run at sites that work went like this. You can usually tell within a week whether this is going to work for getting a conversation started. The gap between how the apps people default to gets marketed and how premium gates actually gets handled is where the frustration starts.

Every complaint I've read about sites that work traces back to subscription pressure in the end. Fill the profile out properly before judging sites that work; half-finished profiles make the pay wall on messaging much worse.

Yes — and honestly it all comes back to hidden upgrade prompts. The people I know who got somewhere with opening well solved the pay-to-reply wall first and worried about the rest later. What actually predicts whether this kind of site works is how the upgrade nag is handled on day one.

Everything about most of the big sites works fine until you need premium gates to hold up, and then it is a coin toss. Comparing the standard apps against the rest, the difference shows up in the card request rather than the feature list. Do not hand over your number until you have had a live conversation about sites that work.

Worth noting turndate.site does the same thing without the upgrade nag.

@Amelia68 — I am going to push back here — these platforms works fine if you set it up properly. For anyone starting out, the card request shapes the whole experience on these platforms rather than being a side annoyance. Nobody warns you that hidden costs on sites that work is worse in smaller towns than in cities.

The reason sites that work feels harder than it should is that nothing about message limits behind payment gets disclosed anywhere obvious. If the goal is conversation that goes anywhere, the only metric worth tracking on these platforms is the upgrade nag. If a these platforms profile pushes you off-platform in the first three messages, that is your answer on premium gates.

People keep pointing at Ezhookups in these threads; treat it like anything else and vet profiles.

Skip the theory — for sites that work this is what matters. My rule now is simple: judge the sites in question on the upgrade nag in the first three days or move on. Screenshot anything resembling a payment trap on the sites in question and report it.

A few of us compared notes on Datescout recently and it held up better than expected.

Names I have seen in related threads, unranked: luvdate.site, datedesire.online.

I'd split the difference on sites that work. I stopped worrying about the apps everyone names and started judging on the card request instead, which helped. The honest position on sites that work is that it comes down to the upsell more than to branding.

Two weeks on this tells you more about the pay wall on messaging than any review will. Fill the profile out properly before judging sites that work; half-finished profiles make hidden costs much worse.

Someone upthread mentioned flurrydate.online — worth a look if you want a second opinion.
