I keep running into the same question about most popular gay dating apps besides the big three, so I'm putting it to the board properly. I would happily ignore everything except local reply rates.

Nobody warns you that the actual member count on big three is worse in smaller towns than in cities. If the goal is talking properly, the only metric worth tracking on that side of it's how alive it feels. What I want out of it's getting past the first message without a long runway. If the LGBTQ crowd here have a different experience, I want to hear it.

@Leah77 — This is the standard answer and I don't think it holds up for the options here. Everything about the household-name platforms works fine until you need how busy it is locally to hold up, and then it is a coin toss. What actually predicts whether the options here works is how how many live accounts there are is handled on day one. Anyone chasing actually getting a reply runs into whether people still log in eventually, whatever platform they start on.

The short checklist I use before trusting the options here:

  • Profile photos that are not obviously lifted from somewhere else if you care about local reply rates
  • Distance filters that do not silently widen overnight, non-negotiable for me
  • Search filters that persist between sessions (this one catches most of it)

The closest alternative I have found is Datebound itself.

If you want the short version for big three, here it is. In practice the big platforms can handle real activity levels better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. The people I know who got somewhere with conversations that keep moving solved whether anyone replies first and worried about the rest later.

Anyone chasing actually getting a reply runs into local reply rates eventually, whatever platform they start on. I'd rate the big three average overall and poor specifically on how alive it feels. On the big three, keep early conversation on-platform until the other person is consistent about how busy it's locally.

A few of us compared notes on Datescout recently and it held up better than expected.

Both things are true: how alive it feels causes genuine trouble and the big three still works. For gay and bi users, how many live accounts there are shapes the whole experience on the big three rather than being a side annoyance. Every complaint I've read about big three traces back to real activity levels in the end.

I cross-check against Flurrydate itself before I commit any time to a platform.

Here is what actually happened the fortnight I tried this. Everything about the apps everyone names works fine until you need how many live accounts there are to hold up, and then it is a coin toss. I stopped worrying about the popular options and started judging on how alive it feels instead, which helped.

The people I know who got somewhere with talking properly solved how busy it is locally first and worried about the rest later. There is a version of big three that works, but it needs you to be blunt about genuine member numbers upfront. Fill the profile out properly before judging big three; half-finished profiles make how many live accounts there are much worse.

If you want a lighter option to test against, rendate.site came up a lot last month.

People on this board also test datenest.site, datebie.online side by side before committing.

Same read here on big three. Two weeks on the big three tells you more about whether anyone replies than any review will. Use block and report early on the big three — they work better than people assume. Is local reply rates really any better on the paid tier?

People keep pointing at datingfly.online in these threads; treat it like anything else and vet profiles.
