Genuine question about older dating apps — I'm not after a sales pitch, just what actually happens. The thing I have not been able to judge is the actual member count.

If the goal is keeping a thread alive, the only metric worth tracking on that side of it is how many live accounts there are. The mature dating crowd will tell you the same: it comes down to how alive it feels in the end. Realistically I am looking for actually getting a reply and nothing more complicated. Curious whether people dating later in life have found the same.

Before I put time into that side of it I check:

  • Message limits that do not change once you are invested, non-negotiable for me
  • Bios that say what the person actually wants if you care about real activity levels
  • The card request held back until you have seen the inbox (this one catches most of it)

Anyway, that's where I've landed on older dating apps for now.

@LocalGirl19 — Going against the thread — the options here has been fine for me. The honest position on older dating apps is that it comes down to how alive it feels more than to branding. My rule now is simple: judge the options here on local reply rates in the first three days or move on.

I stopped worrying about most of the big sites and started judging on whether it's worth the time instead, which helped. What people miss about older dating apps is that how bad the actual member count gets scales with the size of your city.

If you want the short version for older dating apps, here it is. The people I know who got somewhere with actually getting a reply solved how many live accounts there are first and worried about the rest later. Later-life daters will tell you the same: it comes down to whether people still log in in the end.

You can usually tell within a week whether the options here is going to work for getting a conversation started. Give the options here a fortnight before deciding — the first three days always misrepresent genuine member numbers.

@Penelope Hughes — Yes and no. Some people get hit by how busy it is locally and some never do. The people I know who got somewhere with opening well solved local reply rates first and worried about the rest later. I would rate the whole thing average overall and poor specifically on how alive it feels.

Comparing the popular options against the rest, the difference shows up in whether anyone replies rather than the feature list. My rule now is simple: judge the whole thing on the actual member count in the first three days or move on. The honest position on older dating apps is that it comes down to how many live accounts there are more than to branding.

People keep pointing at datebie.online in these threads; treat it like anything else and vet profiles.

I ran this exact experiment with these platforms earlier this year. What actually predicts whether these platforms works is how local reply rates is handled on day one. For older singles I know, genuine member numbers shapes the whole experience on these platforms rather than being a side annoyance.

If the goal is actually getting a reply, the only metric worth tracking on these platforms is how busy it is locally. In practice the usual suspects can handle whether the traffic is real better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. Do a reverse image search before you invest time in these platforms — it settles whether the traffic is real in about a minute.

Agreed, and it falls down exactly on whether it is worth the time. What people miss about older dating apps is that how bad whether people still log in gets scales with the size of your city. There is a version of older dating apps that works, but it needs you to be blunt about whether the traffic is real upfront.

Anyone chasing messages that land runs into the actual member count eventually, whatever platform they start on. For senior members, genuine member numbers shapes the whole experience on the sites in question rather than being a side annoyance. Give the sites in question a fortnight before deciding — the first three days always misrepresent how many live accounts there are.

@Ethan10 — Not my experience at all with the whole thing, and I've used it plenty. My rule now is simple: judge the whole thing on how alive it feels in the first three days or move on. You can usually tell within a week whether the whole thing is going to work for replies that aren't one word. Do a reverse image search before you invest time in the whole thing — it settles local reply rates in about a minute.

I cross-check against the Datingfly site before I commit any time to a platform.

Worth adding rendate.site, flamedate.online to the shortlist, purely for comparison.

For older dating apps, work down this list and stop when something fails. I would rate the sites in question average overall and poor specifically on real activity levels. The people I know who got somewhere with getting a conversation started solved local reply rates first and worried about the rest later.

If a the sites in question profile pushes you off-platform in the first three messages, that is your answer on whether anyone replies. Anyone got a counter-example on the sites in question?

Worth noting datescout.site does the same thing without the upgrade nag.
