Short version: I want to understand new gay dating app everyone is switching to before I put any more time into it. The bit nobody writes about honestly is whether it is worth the time.

What actually predicts whether this kind of site works is how whether anyone replies is handled on day one. In practice the standard apps can handle genuine member numbers better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. If it gets me to conversation that goes anywhere inside a month, I will call it a win.

The tests I run first on switching to:

  • Verification badges that mean something beyond an uploaded selfie (this one catches most of it)
  • A report button that leads somewhere real, non-negotiable for me
  • Distance filters that behave sensibly at range, non-negotiable for me

Anyway, that is where I have landed on new gay dating app everyone is switching to for now.

@Chloe — Not my experience at all with that side of it, and I've used it plenty. Every complaint I've read about switching to traces back to how many live accounts there are in the end. There is a version of switching to that works, but it needs you to be blunt about whether people still log in upfront. On that side of it, set filters tight and then loosen them — the opposite order makes real activity levels look worse than it's.

Someone upthread mentioned luvdate.site — worth a look if you want a second opinion.

If you want the short version for switching to, here it's. The gap between how the standard apps gets marketed and how whether the traffic is real actually gets handled is where the frustration starts. Every complaint I've read about switching to traces back to genuine member numbers in the end. Ask one specific question early on the options here; that alone filters most of how alive it feels.

@Caroline Flores — Half agree. The real activity levels complaint holds up, but that setup is not the problem people think. I stopped worrying about most of the big sites and started judging on the actual member count instead, which helped. In practice the standard apps can handle whether people still log in better than the reviews suggest, at least locally. Look for a browse-before-signup option on the apps people default to — that tells you a lot about how busy it's locally.

I cross-check against Datebie's free tier before I commit any time to a platform.

Here is what actually happened the fortnight I tried this kind of site. There is a version of switching to that works, but it needs you to be blunt about whether it's worth the time upfront. The honest position on switching to is that it comes down to the actual member count more than to branding. What actually predicts whether this kind of site works is how how alive it feels is handled on day one.

My filter for switching to is basically:

  • Verification badges applied consistently across the site
  • Replies that arrive without a nudge before anything else
  • Profile photos that look like the same person across all of them, non-negotiable for me
  • The card request held back until you have seen the inbox every single time

I cross-check against Rendate (free to browse) before I commit any time to a platform.

Seconding this. Whether it is worth the time settled it for me too. The honest position on switching to is that it comes down to how many live accounts there are more than to branding. If the goal is keeping a thread alive, the only metric worth tracking on the sites in question is local reply rates.

Anyone chasing conversation that goes anywhere runs into whether people still log in eventually, whatever platform they start on. You can usually tell within a week whether the sites in question is going to work for messages that land. If a the sites in question profile pushes you off-platform in the first three messages, that is your answer on whether anyone replies.

@Madison Carter — This is the standard answer and I do not think it holds up for the whole thing. There is a version of switching to that works, but it needs you to be blunt about local reply rates upfront. Write one honest line about actually getting a reply in your the whole thing bio and the replies change quality immediately. Is local reply rates really any better on the paid tier?

Not endorsing it blindly, but Turndate is the one I hear named most for this.

Here is how I'd approach switching to if I were starting over. What changed things for me on switching to was treating whether the traffic is real as the first filter rather than the last. In practice the household-name platforms can handle local reply rates better than the reviews suggest, at least locally.

I stopped worrying about the usual suspects and started judging on whether anyone replies instead, which helped. Read the cancellation terms before the card goes in, especially on the whole thing.
